Adventureheads Lighting Tips

There are numerous choices when it comes to bike lights.  Speed during night mountain bike legs is directly related to the amount of light you have.  The more the faster.  Typically a 10W or higher light can cost $150 or more.  The light shown is the Evolution 6V from Niterider.  It comes with a rechargeable battery.  The downfall with this battery is that it lasts about 2 hours and is expensive to have more than one.  As an alternative we purchased some connectors from radio shack and purchased a $7 lantern battery (6V).  The duct tape and plastic bag work well to keep the battery clean and dry during inclement weather.  We get a good 8-12 hours with the lantern battery custom setup shown.

Headlamps are required gear and come in all shapes and sizes.  We have tried lots and tend to like the LED style better than halogen style.  The LED headlamps use less batteries.  Batteries are heavy and the less you have the carry the better.  In addition, LED light is much broader and spread out compared to the "spot like" effect you get from halogens.  The lack of a spot light effect helps reduce "tunnel vision".
